Unable to put patch SM in DFU mode

Hey There, I just got 2 Patch Submodules in the mail. I’ve followed the getting started steps but I am unable to receive any response from the board when completing the steps to put it in DFU Mode

Doing:

  1. connect to computer via micro USB
  2. Hold Boot
  3. Press Reset
  4. Release Both

The power LED is on, but the USR LED stays off. I am unable to see the board as a device when clicking the connect button in the web programmer, or listed as a USB device when monitoring connected devices via terminal.

I am on macOS Ventura 13.3.

Are these boards toast? They’re fresh out of the package.

Thanks

I have never used the web programmer, but i think you need Chrome browser to use it. Are you using a different browser by any chance?

Yes, Chrome browser is required - but on any other browsers, the Connect button is grayed out.

It’s possible, but unlikely, that two new Patch SM are dead. More likely, is user error, or a faulty USB cable. Some cables are only for charging, and don’t have the data wires. This can be sneaky, since the Daisy will light up, but not show up on USB.

So, the first thing is to be absolutely certain that the cable is a working, appropriate USB cable.

On Mac OS, ‘System Information’ allows you to see what devices are on the USB bus, and you can see that the Daisy device type changes depending on what program it’s running, and on the button sequence used to put the Daisy in DFU mode for upload.

Instead of releasing both at once, try holding the ‘boot’ button for 1 second after releasing the ‘reset’, that’s the important part, and doing them at once may not actually work depending on which one is actually released first.

Thanks, I didn’t even think about checking the cable. I’ve used this cable for data transfer in the past, but its old and has seen better days so thats definitely possible. I’ll source another cable and proceed from there.
