Guitar Pedal Noise Troubleshooting

Hi everyone!

I have been messing around with building a guitar pedal with the Daisy Seed. I have successfully programmed it a few times with the web programmer tool, but no matter what circuit I use I have a tremendous amount of noise coming from the Daisy seed (Rev.7). I have tried the Terrarium and Fun Box schematics, and the noise is so loud and prevalent that it’s not useable.

After researching, I understand that the Rev.7 has been having more noise issues in Terrarium builds.

Does anyone has a suggestion for a different circuit or fixes for the noise? I’m am not very good with coding and have been having a hard time with it, the web programmer is the only thing I’ve been able to use. I’m more experienced with breadboarding and building guitar pedals.

I appreciate any help on this topic

Thanks!

A couple of questions - what is the character of the noise (white noise, hum, buzz, etc)? How is the pedal powered (battery, USB, wall-wart)? Is the noise present with nothing plugged in or when you plug a guitar in it? Is there anything that can generate EM noise in close proximity to the pedal (cell phones, dimmers, etc)?

The noise is oscillating in the background, not a buzz or white noise. Might be hissing a bit it’s been a few days since I’ve retried.

So I have powered it with a rechargeable battery (for phone charging), isolated power supplies, a battery, and a wall wart. Has been present in all cases (I’ve tried 2 different schematics)

I can play my guitar through it with minimal noise in bypass mode, but the effect brings the oscillation.

I’m not sure if anything is interfering with it, that I will have to test

I am starting to think the noise may be somehow generated/amplified by the algorithm you have flashed. Which of the examples do you have flashed currently? Maybe something causes it to self-oscillate.

I have @kshep’s pedal (early version w/o the LP filter) and haven’t noticed any excessive noise.

I’ve tried with IR cab sim, a reverb, and a couple others. It was present in all cases. Could it be something wrong with they way I’m programming them?

There is an easy way to figure this out - you can flash a bypass example (in → out) and see if the noise is still present. If yes, then it is likely a hardware problem.

Ok thank you, I’ll give that a go. Appreciate the help

I had success following the daisy bluemchen power management circuit with a dc/dc converter. Without the converter the noise was too much for my taste.
