Fried 2 Seeds v1.2 when powering from 10V

Hi

Unfortunately i destroyed two daisy seed boards in quick succession when connecting them to a stabilized 10V DC source. According to the datasheet up to 17V is possible. Beside the vin (pin 39) and dgnd (pin 40) only two buttons and one audio out channel is connected. The buttons short a pin to ground when closed, the audio out connects to an op-amp mixing stage (ac coupling).
Strangely enough in both cases it worked for around at least a minute then the power led started flickering, after a while the power led was only faintly lit and the STM32 and possibly some other components got really hot. I was capable to upload the firmware via SWD (internal Flash) and Uart (qspi flash) using a custom bootloader in one case.
What’s worth mentioning is that i soldered the connections directly to the seed. Is it possible that some pin (vin?) are sensitive to heat? I have decades experience soldering so i think the soldering capabilities are not the problem, but some components might get very hot because of the space. I’m using a low-voltage soldering station which is ESD-proof.
I successfully integrated daisy seed into components when using 5V at Vin in multiple cases.

Hey @stonerose35!
I’m really sorry to hear about the fried Daisies.
I saw that there were more conversation happening about this on Discord. In case other community members come across this thread, could you let us know which suggestion there ended up working? Thanks!!

Thanks for the reply. What works for me is powering them strictly from 5V only.
Just a moment ago i joined discord to follow the discussions there. Luckily i got new daisies. If i find time i’ll done some careful experiments gradually increasing supply voltage and see what happens.
