Daisy Pod - using *USB* MIDI in, not TRS?

Does anyone have example code for using the micro-USB MIDI input on Daisy Pod (on the motherboard, not the Daisy Seed itself) rather than the 3.5mm TRS input?

The only MIDI example I can find says that it only works with the TRS input. Why?
